....the bias-cut dress make popular by the French designer Madeleine Vionnet in the 1920's.  This design stripped away all of the padding and corsets, and instead invited the fabric to flow freely around the woman's natural figure.  At the height of Vionnet's popularity, her designs were most popular with Katherine Hepburn and Greta Garbo.  The bias-cut technique is still very popular with designers today.
